About Eastside

Eastside Connections School offers K-8 students a Problem Based Learning (PrBL) platform aimed at increasing student engagement, collaboration, presentation skills and overall depth and application of knowledge. Using a small-school model, ECS offers two sections per grade level K through 8th. K-2 specifically focuses on skill development in a traditional format coupled with the introduction of key PrBL vocabulary to ready our students for a rich PrBL experience in grades 3-8 at which point students are ready to put their higher order thinking skills to work.

We understand and welcome the idea that in today's classrooms, our students have diverse backgrounds, a variety of achievement levels, and different learning styles. In order to make sure that ALL students at ECS are meeting their goals and expectations the teachers will utilize a variety of new and innovative techniques for the children to build their own understanding through real world applications and interactions with their peers.

The teachers at ECS become facilitators working with students to frame worthwhile questions, structuring meaningful tasks, coaching both knowledge development and social skills, and carefully assessing what students have learned from their experience. They will act as a guide, directing students when needed, but ultimately allowing students to discover in their own way. Our students understand that ECS belongs to them and know that the people surrounding them are their family and the classrooms they come to everyday are their homes.

Developing meaningful relationships within the program serves as a key element in fostering the belief that every student is a role model and has the ability to develop vital leadership skills. Emphasizing inventive thinking and problem solving, students at ECS strive to be life-long learners and understand the idea that the things they are learning today will impact their lives tomorrow.
